Royston Picture Palace originally opened in 2013. In December 2019, management of the cinema became a collaboration between Royston Town Council and Saffron Screen (a similar community-focused cinema in Saffron Walden, Essex). Our aim is, through film, to entertain, educate and create shared experiences in order to improve the quality of life for everyone in Royston and the surrounding areas. We offer the full cinema experience - complete with full sized cinema screen, Dolby Digital Sound and cinema seating - not forgetting the popcorn of course! - all from Royston's  very own Town Hall.

As you can imagine, it’s been a bit of a bumpy ride over the last 18 months, but we are delighted to be back sharing films with you. As we head into the Autumn, expect to see a full programme of fantastic films – usually just a few weeks behind their main cinema release dates.

Screenings take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, with matinee showings on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Onsite parking is available at Royston’s Civic Centre car park and is free after 3pm every day, and all day on Sundays.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we can keep our ticket prices competitive: Tickets are just £8 for adults and £6 for those under 18, with concession prices available too. We also stock a wide range of refreshments and are hoping to obtain an alcohol license in the coming months.

The cinema cinema2.jpgis situated on the first floor and second, balcony level of Royston Town Hall (please note: the front row of the balcony has a restricted view for small children). We are fully accessible with provision in our seating plan for up to three wheelchair users and carers. We can also provide Audio Description headsets for the visually impaired as well as audio headset facilities for the hard of hearing. We also aim to regularly schedule subtitled screenings.

You can book here on our website or buy tickets in person at Royston Town Hall office on the corner of Melbourn Street and Melbourn Road, Mon - Fri 9-4. Tickets can also be bought at the cinema itself, but at the moment we can only offer this for on-the-evening tickets (as opposed to advanced screenings).

More detailed information on the cinema and our COVID response can be found in our FAQ pages.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
